The SP5 was developed by Heckler & Koch as a semi-automatic, civilian sporting pistol (hence the “SP” prefix) that matches the look and ergonomics of the famous MP5 submachine gun. It is actually the second iteration of an HK commercial/civilian pistol inspired by the MP5 design.
The SP5 is designed and manufactured to meet the strict definition of a civilian pistol in the USA and can not be altered to fire in the full automatic mode. Other features on the SP5 — including adjustable target sights and the absence of a foregrip confirm its identity an a commercial product approved for sporting purposes by both the U.S. and German governments. The SP5 is manufactured completely in Heckler & Koch’s Oberndorf factory in southwest Germany.
