The Cylinder & Slide Guide Rod is heat-treated and has a centerless ground shaft. This Rod will help to stabilize the recoil spring compression and reduce operational friction as well as prevent spring kinking and provide smoother cycling. The 1-Piece Guide Rods are drop-in parts that require no modification, and 2-Piece Guide Rod requires fitting by a qualified gunsmith.
Notes:
- Full length guide rods replace the stock spring guide and provide full support of the recoil spring. This allows for even compression of the spring coils as the slide moves to the rear, making the absorption of energy more uniform. Centering the thrust of recoil in this way makes slide cycling consistent and helps with feeding and extraction.
- Use of a one piece guide rod makes traditional disassembly of the gun impossible. To disassemble a gun equipped with a one piece guide rod, make sure the gun is not loaded, push the slide to the rear until the slide stop retainer tip lines up with the relief cut in the slide and hold the slide in that position until you remove the slide stop. Then take the slide off the frame in the usual fashion.
- Two piece guide rods are designed to offer the same performance of a one piece rod with easier disassembly. These rods have an allen fitting in the end of the rod, which you turn to remove the front end during disassembly. After turning the barrel bushing 1/4 clockwise turn, place your allen wrench in the slot of the rod, turn and remove the end of the rod. You can now remove the spring plug and rod end releasing tension on the slide, then remove the slide as in standard disassembly.
